What is Roukasskass?

A very Ivorian strategy to divert the everyday? A survival technique?

It is for sure incredible mix of rhythms, virtuosity, speed, acrobatics, and corrosive humour, drawing on the famous Coupé Décalé.

Born in the early 2000s in the Parisian Ivorian community, Coupé Décalé quickly invaded the streets of Abidjan as a thumbing of the nose at an increasingly tense economic, political and military context that exploded in 2011... Carefree, joyful, light, it brought people together with simple and wild choreographies, mixing music, dance and sape to escape the difficulties of everyday life with a ferocious humour.

To the Coupé Décalé rhythms, Roukasskass adds rhythmic loops made up of extremely fast and brutally interrupted drum solos. Dance integrates acrobatics, as well as hip-hop techniques to become a celebration of show-off, life, sexuality and resourcefulness...

Nadia Beugré invites us to a virtuoso and breath-taking demonstration. On the programme, overexcited steps, irreverent swaying, acrobatic figures and jumps and 100% Abidjan energy.

The performance is preceded by a two-to-three-day workshops with amateurs. Easily adaptable, it can take place indoors and outdoors, in courtyards, squares, parks, galleries...
