NADIA BEUGRÉ
Like Filles-Pétroles and Prophétique (on est déjà né.es) in 2022 and 2023, the new solo will dig into the native land, bringing her back to childhood, to the village of Ikakou.
An impossible return to a secret, fantastic village, another Macondo lost in Côte d'Ivoire, the village of her grandmothers, the village where she grew up. A village that no longer exists: the forest is now covering the village and its fields that have been cursed.
The journey will lead to the grandmotherly figure who gave Beugré her name, “Gbahihonon”, the "woman who says what she sees". Gbahihonon was a woman of powerful character and knowledge, who protected the small community against attacks, whether physical or mystical, and was able to predict the fate of the newborns.
The journey will follow in the footsteps of these other powerful women, often forgotten, who, in the shadows of collective memories, made and unmade empires and lineages, such as Dô-Kamissa.
Wronged by her brother, Dô-Kamissa, already an ageing woman turned herself into buffalo to ravage his lands. A woman oracle, she skilfully imposes the marriage of the king, Naré Maghann Konaté, to Sogolon Kandé, an ugly, hunchbacked woman, a double of Dô-Kamissa, also associated with the figure of the buffalo-woman. This peculiar union gave birth to Soundiata Keita and the epic that has since spanned the centuries.
Inhabited by these voices, between collective memories and intimate recollections, Nadia Beugré will be accompanied on stage by two women, a female griot, bearer of forgotten clans and stories, and a musician/singer. Both will echo and bear witness to her story.
